This iconic belt features a buckle that uses the same mechanism as the metal fittings used to secure fire hoses.
It is said that it was invented when British firefighters used metal fittings from hoses as buckles.
It is designed to be released quickly.
The leather used is domestic saddle leather (the same leather as IPSDB-01).
*Only the bends (butt part) of the leather is used, which is fully vegetable tanned.
Compared to regular tanning, the leather is left in the pit for about a month longer, which makes the fibers tighter.
Normally, the nibe (the shaggy back side) is scraped off before dyeing, but by dyeing it with the hair still attached, it gives the fabric firmness and hardness.
After dyeing, we finish by polishing the fabric with a high-pressure iron.
When processing into belts, the fabric is thinned to 5 mm and the back is dyed and polished before being cut.
After cutting, the edges are chamfered by hand using a plane, and the dyeing and polishing process is also done by hand with glass to give it a smooth finish.
As you use it, the color will darken, the leather will become glossier and the leather will improve.
*The edges of the obi have lines called nenhiki, which add an accent to the design.
*Due to the characteristics of leather, it may transfer to clothing, etc. due to friction or moisture.
Please be especially careful with light-colored items.
